Renowned industry analyst Jeff Pu has revealed new insider details about Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 lineup — and it’s not all exciting news, especially for those eyeing the base model.
According to Pu, while the standard iPhone 17 will bring some changes, they’ll mostly be cosmetic. Under the hood, it’s expected to use the same Apple A18 chip and 8GB of RAM as the iPhone 16, making it nearly identical in performance.
The only notable design change? A smaller Dynamic Island cutout across all iPhone 17 models, made possible by a new compact proximity sensor.
Major Upgrades Coming to Higher-End Models
While the base model may feel a bit familiar, the rest of the lineup is set to see more substantial improvements:
-
iPhone 17 Air will reportedly be powered by the next-gen A19 chip.
-
iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are said to feature the high-performance A19 Pro processor, built on TSMC’s advanced N3P node.
-
Both Pro models will also get a memory boost, jumping to 12GB of RAM.
Interestingly, there’s no mention of an iPhone 17 Plus in the report — adding weight to earlier rumors that Apple might scrap this version altogether in 2025.
As expected, Apple has declined to comment on these leaks.
