According to data from analytics site Statcounter, Windows 11 has seen a drop in market share over the past month, while Windows 10 has managed to hold onto, and even slightly grow, its user base.
In May 2025, Windows 11’s global market share fell from 47.32% to 43.23%. Meanwhile, Windows 10 remains in the lead with 53.19%, gaining 0.25%. Despite this recent decline, Windows 11 has made significant gains since the start of the year, increasing its share by 17.04%. Its popularity could rise further in the coming months, especially as support for Windows 10 is set to officially end in October—mirroring the end-of-support timeline Windows 7 faced.
In the US, Windows 11 had been the most widely used version, but its share dropped from 56.36% to 52.94% in May. Canada saw a similar decline, with Windows 11 holding 50.65% of the market—a 2.05% drop. On the other hand, Windows 11 is doing well in the UK, where it’s now installed on about 57.12% of computers.
