Dungeons & Dragons fans have a new video game to look forward to: a single-player action-adventure title is being developed by Giant Skull, a studio founded by Stig Asmussen, the director known for the Star Wars Jedi games and God of War III.
Wizards of the Coast, the Hasbro subsidiary that owns D&D, has signed an exclusive publishing agreement with the relatively new studio, which was established in 2024 after Asmussen’s departure from Respawn Entertainment.
While details remain scarce, the game is being built from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5 and is slated for release on PC and consoles. This marks Giant Skull’s debut project, with Asmussen promising a “rich new DUNGEONS & DRAGONS universe filled with immersive storytelling, heroic combat and exhilarating traversal.”
This announcement comes on the heels of the massive success of Baldur’s Gate 3, a different take on the D&D universe as a turn-based RPG. Wizards of the Coast seems keen to explore various genres within the franchise, with this new title aiming for a more action-oriented, single-player experience, aligning with Asmussen’s previous work.
No release date has been announced, but the collaboration between a seasoned director and the iconic D&D franchise is generating considerable excitement among gamers.
