It looks like Microsoft’s efforts to move users to Windows 11 are finally starting to yield visible results. According to fresh data from StatCounter, the advantage of Windows 10 over its successor has narrowed even more and now stands at just over 1%.
As of early June, the market share of the “ten” was 48.92% versus 47.73% for Windows 11. This, according to analysts, was the result of a sudden and largest wave of users switching to the new OS since its release. One of the most obvious reasons for the surge in popularity of the current version of “windows” is considered to be the end of support for Windows 10 in October of this year: users are buying new PCs, upgrading old ones, or forcibly installing Windows 11 on old equipment.
By comparison, in June 2024, Windows 10 was installed on 66% of “surveyed” computers, while Windows 11 accounted for just under 30% of the market. Since then, both operating systems have been steadily moving towards each other on schedule.
For those who are in no hurry to upgrade, the company is preparing a convenient tool for transferring data from an old PC to a new one. According to Microsoft, this may also influence users’ decisions to switch to Windows 11.
