Belgian programmer Stijn Spanhove has created an application for augmented reality glasses that brings an ad blocker into real life. With its help, billboards, images on product packaging and other similar objects become less noticeable, allowing the owner of the accessory not to be distracted by everything.
The Google Gemini neural network is used to recognize advertisements. The “blocker” replaces all detected signs, posters, and even obvious advertisements in newspapers with a red rectangle with a basic description of the item (for example, “a can of cola”).
Spanhove noted that the experimental version of the program is not perfect. He plans to improve it – in particular, to add the function of replacing the red rectangle with custom images or text notes. The application is written on the basis of open libraries for Snap Spectacles glasses. There is no version for Apple Vision Pro or Oculus Quest yet.
