Duke Nukem to be turned into anime — creator of Castlevania and Devil May Cry is working on the adaptation
The stream of video game adaptations shows no sign of slowing down – producer Adi Shankar, responsible for anime adaptations of Castlevania and Devil May Cry, has announced the acquisition of a new license. It looks like we’re in for a screen adaptation of Duke Nukem.
Adi Shankar has announced to the public that he now owns the rights to the film adaptation of Duke Nukem. When asked by journalists what Duke Nukem is in his understanding, Shankar replied:
This is a middle finger to everyone. When Duke Nukem blew up the dance floor, a bunch of people tried to make a brand out of it, but it was just an obscene gesture, that’s all. Corporations can’t make Duke, because if corporations do it, it’s not Duke Nukem. So I’m not going to listen to anyone telling me how to make this story.
However, the adaptation will have to wait for some time – right now Shankar is working on the second season of Devil May Cry, which will be seriously different from the first in spirit, because Vergil will appear in it. In addition, the author believes that his animated adaptations are not anime: he prefers classic American cartoons, and therefore he focuses primarily on them.
