New artificial intelligence functionalities have been integrated into the File Explorer in recent Windows 11 test builds. These features are accessible through the expanded right-click context menu, allowing users to perform tasks such as removing image backgrounds, generating concise summaries of text files, and executing other “neural network” operations directly within the file manager.
Microsoft introduced these innovations in OS builds released on the Dev and Beta channels. The “fast” AI functions are categorized into two types: image manipulation and text file processing. Upon right-clicking a JPG, JPEG, or PNG image, Explorer will offer options to blur or remove the image background with a single click, as well as seamlessly erase objects using Paint.
Text-related operations, specifically highlighting key points and creating question-and-answer summaries, are available for DOCX, PDF, and PPTX files. Currently, the key point highlighting feature is exclusive to users with OneDrive or SharePoint storage who also have a Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription, while the Q&A summary feature is limited to corporate accounts.
Interested users can experiment with these new features by utilizing the ViVeTool utility and enabling features with IDs 54792954 and 55345819.
