Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, a title released in the mid-2000s, garnered a dedicated fanbase. While it didn’t spawn a direct franchise, some argue that its spirit evolved into the Dishonored series. Now, a spiritual successor has emerged, and its first gameplay trailer has been unveiled to the public.
The game in question is Alkahest, developed by Push On, a studio comprised of seasoned gaming industry veterans who express weariness of expansive, often bloated, open-world games. The newly released gameplay video showcases combat encounters with goblins. However, the exceptionally fluid combat animations suggest that the footage may still be staged. This comes after the developers faced significant criticism for their equally staged announcement trailer, which subsequently required them to issue explanations.
Despite the initial skepticism, the developers assert their ambition to create a believable open world brimming with intriguing locations for exploration, citing Kingdom Come: Deliverance as a key source of inspiration. The studio has also announced its partnership with publisher HypeTrain Digital. A specific release date for Alkahest has not yet been announced.
