RTX 5060 graphics cards causing “black screen” issues in gaming PCs: Here’s how to fix it.

Not long after the launch of the cost-efficient GeForce RTX 5060 graphics card on the market, NVIDIA got the opportunity to observe this new product’s potential to cause some computers to malfunction into a “bricked” state. Luckily, the issue has a solution, although it may not be suitable for all whom the issue affects.

These black screen problems can occur if the new RTX 5060 (and also its Ti variant) encounters some compatibility issues with certain versions of the UEFI firmware on the motherboard when in Legacy and CSM (Compatibility Support Module) modes, according to NVIDIA.

In order to fix this, a vBIOS (video BIOS) update for the card is required. The update is done with the NVIDIA GPU UEFI Firmware Update Tool v2.0.

The problem here is with the fact that to successfully flash vBIOS your need to boot into Windows with the integrated graphics of your CPU (if one exists) or install the RTX 5060 graphics card into another computer system wherein that system has a compatible UEFI firmware version.

NVIDIA, however, has not yet indicated if a failure due to a botched vBIOS update is to be covered under warranty. This leaves the question hanging for the users attempting to do the fix.
