Google is marking the 10th anniversary of its popular Google Photos service with a significant update, introducing a range of helpful new features. The company has detailed enhancements to the built-in image editor, a streamlined method for sharing albums, and provided some useful advice for users to make the most of the platform.
A key highlight of the update is the enhanced editing capabilities, which will leverage the power of artificial intelligence to provide personalized effect suggestions for image enhancement. Users will also gain more granular control over their photos with the ability to edit specific parts of an image. By simply selecting the desired area, such as the sky or a person’s face, Google Photos will intelligently offer relevant processing options to improve that specific region.
Owners of the latest Pixel series smartphones will gain access to exclusive tools like “Reimagine” and “Auto frame,” features initially introduced with the Magic Editor on the Pixel 9. These advanced editing options will be conveniently located alongside the familiar brightness and contrast controls within the editor interface.
Sharing photo albums with others is also set to become much simpler with the introduction of custom-generated QR codes. Instead of relying on sharing links, email addresses, or other methods, users will be able to generate a unique QR code for their album. Recipients can then simply scan this code with their device to instantly access the shared collection.
In addition to the new features, Google has taken the opportunity to remind users of the existing extensive capabilities within Google Photos that enable them to revisit cherished memories and easily share them with friends and family.
All of these announced updates are scheduled to roll out to the Android platform in June 2025. This anniversary update underscores Google’s continued investment in Google Photos as a comprehensive platform for managing, editing, and sharing digital memories.
