Leslie Benzies, former producer of several Grand Theft Auto titles, has big plans for his new game MindsEye — despite a rocky first impression. While some early reviews from journalists and bloggers criticized the game as “dated,” the team behind it is thinking far beyond a single release.
Mark Gerhard, CEO of Build A Rocket Boy, the studio behind MindsEye, expressed disappointment with the media’s reaction, even going as far as to suggest that some coverage may have been influenced. However, Benzies has chosen not to dwell on the controversy. Instead, he shared an ambitious roadmap for the MindsEye universe.
A 10-Year Storytelling Journey
According to Benzies, MindsEye is just the beginning — the first chapter in a story that will unfold over the next decade. Future titles will delve into both the distant past and the far future of the game’s world, with interconnected storylines and recurring themes.
“MindsEye is at the heart of our story. We’re going to explore events from 10,000 years ago, and then move forward again. It’s a key part of the puzzle — one that will raise new questions for players,” Benzies explained.
He also hinted at surprising plot twists and clarified that many elements were intentionally left out of the preview to avoid spoilers.
Post-Launch Support & Future Projects
In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Benzies revealed that MindsEye will receive ongoing updates through the Play.MindsEye platform. The base game is expected to offer around 20 hours of gameplay, excluding future content and multiplayer features. Players can also look forward to an open-world environment.
Additionally, in 2026, Build A Rocket Boy plans to launch a standalone online game set after the events of MindsEye. The long-anticipated title Everywhere will also tie into the same universe, expanding the interconnected narrative even further.
Release Date & Platforms
MindsEye will officially launch on June 10 and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
