ASUS, in collaboration with Microsoft, presented the portable gaming consoles ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. They are similar in appearance and run a lightweight version of Windows 11, but differ in the processor model and some other hardware characteristics.
The ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X is powered by the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip and comes with 24 GB of LPDDR5X-8000 RAM and a 1 TB SSD with the ability to upgrade. The console’s face is a 7-inch IPS display with a 1080p resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. It is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protective glass with an anti-glare layer.
The device’s autonomy is provided by an 80 Wh battery with support for fast 65-watt charging. The gadget also comes with a proprietary docking station. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4 modules are responsible for wireless communication, and the set of traditional interfaces includes the following connectors:
-
USB 4 Type-C (DisplayPort 2.1, Power Delivery 3.0, Thunderbolt 4)
-
USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (DisplayPort 2.1, Power Delivery 3.0)
-
microSD slot (UHS-II)
-
Headphone jack
The ROG Xbox Ally model is equipped with an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor, 16 GB of RAM (LPDDR5X-6400), and a 512 GB storage device, and instead of USB 4, it uses USB 3.2 Gen 2. The battery capacity of this model is 60 Wh.
Both new products run a stripped-down version of Windows 11. Microsoft has specifically reworked the Xbox app and Game Bar for the new portables so that they can be conveniently controlled using buttons only, without touching the screen.
The release of the new products is scheduled for 2025, but prices have not yet been announced.
