EA is preparing to wow gamers with the next installment in the Battlefield franchise, currently in development with new gameplay mechanics, large-scale mode testing, and more. Alongside the multiplayer innovations, the development team is placing renewed focus on crafting a compelling single-player story campaign — and drawing inspiration from major cinematic works.
Writers at EA Motive, the studio behind the campaign, revealed that their narrative direction for Battlefield 6 is influenced by several recent films and series. Key inspirations include Alex Garland’s Civil War — a gritty drama about journalists covering a modern American civil conflict — and Taylor Sheridan’s Special Ops: Lioness, a series based on real events about female CIA operatives.
“We’re really interested in the concept of talented but ordinary people who find themselves in extraordinary situations,” the team explained. “It creates a very interesting dynamic in relationships with other people. We want to convey that dynamic in the single-player campaign.”
The developers aim to create a grounded yet intense narrative, focusing on character-driven moments that reflect the chaos and complexity of modern warfare.
Interestingly, some team members previously worked on the Dead Space remake, and they’re bringing over the same storytelling philosophy — balancing tense, high-stakes sequences with slower, more reflective moments to keep players emotionally engaged throughout the experience.

Fans won’t have to wait too long for a first look. EA is planning to officially unveil Battlefield 6 in summer 2025, with the full release scheduled before April 2026.
