Roscosmos has announced the launch of the GigaChat neural network from Sber to the International Space Station (ISS). The launch will take place as part of the next manned mission, which is scheduled for the fall of this year. This was announced by the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Bakanov at the Digital Industry of Industrial Russia (DIIR) conference in Nizhny Novgorod.
It is expected that GigaChat will become a virtual assistant for astronauts, and the results of the experiment will be presented at the next CIPR conference.
GigaChat will support the ISS crew by acting as an intelligent assistant. During his speech, Bakanov emphasized that AI will help optimize the tasks of astronauts in orbit.
If the fall launch does not take place, the next window for sending the system to the station will open in March 2026. The introduction of GigaChat to the ISS will be an important step in testing the capabilities of AI in the extreme conditions of space.
