Dodge has announced it will end production of the base model of its electric Charger, the Daytona R/T, for the 2026 model year, citing low demand and the impact of new tariffs. The decision comes just four months after the model began shipping.
According to the data, there are about 3,500 unsold Charger Daytona R/Ts in dealer warehouses, which indicates weak buyer interest. Traditional Dodge fans are in no hurry to switch to the electric version. In addition, higher tariffs have made the model even less competitive.
Dodge will continue to build a more powerful version of the Charger Daytona Scat Pack with a dual-motor system producing 670 horsepower, and will also introduce a four-door version in 2026. The company is also preparing to release a gasoline Charger Sixpack with a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine.
The decision to discontinue the Charger Daytona R/T reflects the auto industry’s challenging transition to electrification, especially for brands with a strong gasoline-powered heritage.
