Gamers hate video game DRM (Digital Rights Management) systems, and Denuvo is among the most controversial. Popular grievances are of its effects fundamentally lowering the frame-rate and it being not very noticeably effective. Yet that is the least of the problem, as recent events have demonstrated.
A new Windows 11 update has accidentally broken Denuvo Anti-Tamper for the roguelike game Endless Dungeon and prevented some players from being able to launch the install. After being flooded with complaints by their own fans, developer Amplitude Studios made the extreme decision to remove the offending DRM software altogether. The following the hotfix that made this change can be found in my guideHotfix from May 22nd.
Worth noting, Endless Dungeon was originally released in October 2023 for your PC, PlayStation and Xbox platforms. Despite its unique name, it is the sequel to the acclaimed roguelike Dungeon of the Endless. This situation demonstrates some of the accessibility problems and instability that DRM causes in video games, to the point where some developers have abandoned it completely in an attempt to give a smoother player experience.
