Dedicated fans often extend their passion beyond just playing games to collecting related merchandise, such as collectible figures. In this spirit, WizKids aimed to please fans of Baldur’s Gate III with a unique set of painted figurines. Unfortunately, the quality of the final product has fallen far short of expectations.
In 2024, the company announced D&D Icons of the Realms: Baldur’s Gate III, a $50 box intended to contain six iconic characters from the critically acclaimed game. In theory. However, as evidenced by photos shared by disappointed buyers, the packaging instead contained unsettling and poorly detailed figures that bear little resemblance to Gale, Shadowheart, Astarion, and other beloved characters.
WizKids has since issued an apology for the significant defects. The company has already begun the process of refunding the purchase price to affected customers.
“If you purchased this set through our online store and were not satisfied with it, we are ready to provide a full refund.
We are aware of recent reports and complaints and take them very seriously. Our team is currently investigating these issues and taking steps to correct the situation.”
Reddit users have pointed out that this is not an isolated incident with painted figures from WizKids, with some claiming the company has a history of releasing similarly low-quality merchandise. While a few users suggested that such figures are not typically examined up close, thus justifying the poor quality of faces and models, the vast majority of online commentators have deemed the mistake outrageous and unacceptable.
