Just under two years after Ford ceased production of the beloved Fiesta, whispers are circulating about a potential comeback for the iconic model – this time as a fully electric vehicle. This rumored revival is fueled by Ford’s expanding collaboration with Volkswagen.
The resurrected Fiesta EV could potentially leverage Volkswagen’s upcoming compact electric car, the ID.2. Notably, the ID.2all Concept, a five-door hatchback, shares near-identical dimensions and functionality with the classic Fiesta, being only a mere 18 millimeters longer than its petrol-powered predecessor.
Utilizing Volkswagen’s MEB Entry platform, the rumored electric Fiesta could offer a driving range of up to 450 kilometers (approximately 280 miles) and support rapid charging at speeds of up to 125 kW. This platform is specifically designed for smaller electric vehicles and prioritizes cost-effectiveness. Ford is already reportedly working on developing an affordable electric car, with a target price around $25,000, to compete with the growing number of budget-friendly EVs from manufacturers like BYD.
While there has been no official confirmation from Ford regarding the Fiesta’s electric resurrection, company representatives have pledged to unveil details of their future electric vehicle strategy in the first half of 2025. If these rumors hold true, the electric Ford Fiesta could potentially hit the market within the next 2 to 3 years, marking an electrifying new chapter for a cherished nameplate.
