Full Circle: CDPR to Look to Kingdom Come for The Witcher 4

In a conversation with PC Gamer journalists, CDPR CEO Adam Badowski discussed the gaming industry and the direction the company should take next.

“The gaming industry has changed. We need to find new tricks, especially in gameplay, because in something like a good story, nothing really changes. However, we are acutely aware that gameplay has changed since The Witcher 3. What do players expect from us? There are a lot of cool games, cool mechanics, and smart interface improvements around. This is what we focus on during development, but we want to keep our core intact,” he shares.

As for the objects of imitation, Badowski especially singles out the Kingdom Come: Deliverance duology—which is very curious, because at one time it was CDPR games that were the object of imitation for Warhorse.

“I love Kingdom Come for its sense of realism and sense of humor. The simulation of the world there is just great. There are many ways to change the world, and that’s cool. We would like to continue in this direction; that will be our next steps,” he admits.

As for Baldur’s Gate III, Badowski believes that the way it interacts with the world is fundamentally different from CDPR’s approach, and it will be difficult to implement the same freedom of action and consequences.
