Garmin Introduces New Rugged Navigators for Off-Road Driving

The Garmin family of navigators has been expanded with two new devices. The Tread 2 Overland Edition and SxS Edition models are designed primarily for off-road travel, and therefore have received several noticeable differences from traditional devices of this type.

Each of the new products is equipped with an 8-inch display with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels and a touch layer that recognizes touches from a gloved hand. The battery charge, according to the manufacturer, is enough for six hours of operation at 50 percent screen brightness, and the navigator housings are protected according to the IP6X standard. You can also connect a Garmin inReach satellite communication sensor and a branded GPS tracker for dogs to them.

Especially for off-road driving, the navigators come with maps of North American terrain, as well as OpenStreetMap and U.S. Forest Service data. In addition, you can upload your own satellite images of your intended route to use as a map.

The new models also feature a custom route, a database of 46,000 campsites, and the ability to view the best off-road navigation points with ratings and photos. The only difference between the two navigators is the type of mount: the Overland Edition is attached to the dashboard of a car, while the SxS Edition is attached to the tubular frame of an ATV.

The new products are already on sale in the US at a price of $999.
