GL.iNet Announces Inexpensive Wi-Fi 7 Router with OpenWrt Firmware

Chinese company GL.iNet has announced the release of the Flint 3 tri-band router with Wi-Fi 7 support. In addition to its relatively affordable price, the new product will boast a customizable OpenWrt firmware, which allows you to fine-tune the device’s operation to your preferences.

The router is based on an unnamed Qualcomm processor (probably IPQ5332) with a frequency of 1.5 GHz, equipped with 1 GB of DDR4 RAM and an 8 GB eMMC drive. The OpenWrt 23.05 firmware (Linux 5.4.213) with support for more than 5,000 plugins and an ad blocking function is installed on this hardware.

The device’s body has five 2.5 Gbps Ethernet ports (four LAN and one WAN), a USB 3.0 connector for connecting a modem or smartphone, and four antennas. The device supports operation in three ranges – 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz with a maximum throughput of 688, 2882 and 5765 Mbps, respectively. In addition, the router can operate as a mesh network cell.

The retail price of GL.iNet Flint 3 in the US will be $229, with sales scheduled to start in mid-July.
