According to Bloomberg, the company is preparing for a wave of mass layoffs that could see thousands of employees lose their jobs. It is believed that Microsoft is trying to reallocate its internal resources, putting even more money into developing AI.
The publication, citing sources familiar with the situation, reports that precise information on the scale of the layoffs will appear in early July after the end of the financial year. Sales departments will be the first to be hit, but the wave of layoffs will also affect other departments. Microsoft itself has not yet given any official comments.
In May of this year, the software maker already cut 6,000 people – mainly positions related to software products and customer service. At that time, the company said that it regularly reviews the organizational structure to ensure that investments are correct and growing. Now the corporation’s priorities have shifted towards artificial intelligence – which means, according to journalists, it will try to cut costs in other areas.
