Microsoft Changes Windows 11 System Requirements to Enable AI Features

The company has quietly updated the Windows 11 minimum system requirements page. The innovation affected the set of Copilot+ PC functions: it became known which processor models, in addition to the new Snapdragon, are suitable for running the operating system’s standard tools based on AI.

The basic requirements for Windows 11 remain the same — the updated list specifically talks about running neural network functions. Previously, Microsoft only specified that this would require an NPU module with a performance of at least 40 TOPS (trillion operations per second). Now the requirements have become more detailed, and include three series of CPUs:

  • AMD Ryzen AI 300.
  • Intel Core Ultra 200V.
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon X.

In addition, Microsoft has also increased the memory requirements for “AI computers”: at least 16 GB of RAM and an SSD drive of at least 256 GB. Windows 11 itself will still work on less productive hardware configurations, but owners of such hardware will not be able to launch AI-based functions.
