More Freedom and More Choice. Mundfish Talks About Atomic Heart II

At Summer Game Fest 2025, Atomic Heart II was announced – a sequel to one of the most notable games of 2023, which is still receiving add-ons and patches. The project is in development, but it will not be released anytime soon.

Mundfish CEO Robert Bagratuni spoke to Wccftech and shared the game’s status. The businessman dispelled some speculation about the shooter and promised that the sequel would be bigger and better than the original in every way. The most important points from the conversation:

  • the events of Atomic Heart II will unfold several years after the denouement of the first part and its DLC – and the title will finally explain which of the action movie’s endings can be considered canonical;
  • the use of Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now does not mean that Mundfish abandoned the Soviet/Slavic flavor – on the contrary, the authors tried to reflect the spirit of the 70s, when Western culture (in the form of, for example, vinyl records with American and European songs) began to penetrate the USSR;
  • The story of Major Nechaev, also known as P-3, will continue;
  • the authors want to put much more emphasis on freedom and an open world: in Atomic Heart II, gamers will find vehicles and new ways of getting around, plus much more content (but not just for show);
  • the shooter will also feature RPG elements with character customization, skill trees, and dilemmas that will have some (probably far-reaching) consequences for the hero and the plot;
  • there will be no multiplayer – it has been reserved for The Cube;
  • The trailer contains snippets of actual gameplay, and the video itself was shot entirely on Unreal Engine 5.

Bagratuni emphasized that Atomic Heart II is in active production — the team has already passed the prototyping stage. The head of the studio did not say when exactly the premiere will take place, but noted that the release will have to wait several years.
