A craftsman has used the Perplexity Labs platform to create a system that can track people through walls using a regular Wi-Fi signal. The most interesting thing is that it took him just under an hour to develop it.
The technology does not require cameras or lidars. Instead, a simple router is enough for surveillance. The system analyzes changes in the phase and amplitude of Wi-Fi signals, processes them with a neural network and builds wireframe models of people in real time.
The system uses Wi-Fi MIMO 3×3 technology to capture channel information (CSI), which is then processed by a dual-channel encoder and a neural network stack. The technology supports streaming (RTMP), which allows data to be transmitted in real time. According to the author , although setting up the router took about 20 minutes, the development process itself was incredibly fast.
The experiment demonstrates the potential of AI tools to instantly prototype complex systems. But for now, the technology raises privacy concerns because it allows people to be secretly monitored without their knowledge.
