Tech blogger Zach Nelson tested the durability of an unusual device for his YouTube channel — the Nintendo Switch 2 gaming console. Despite the removable magnetic controllers and folding stand, the new product turned out to be very durable, albeit with some reservations.
The Switch 2’s “weak link” turned out to be the screen, the coating of which is easily scratched with a “three” center punch. Nelson suggested that this is a special plastic layer that protects the screen from cracking. However, this material did not receive visible damage after 10 seconds of exposure to an open flame, and the matrix in the heated area, although blackened, was completely restored upon cooling.
The body of the device itself and the Joy-Con controllers are made of plastic, so it was easy to scratch them with a stationery knife. But the inscriptions on the controller buttons are made by double casting, so they cannot be erased. The stand is metal and is also easily scratched with a knife blade.
Another feature is the connection of the Joy-Con controllers — the place where they connect to the console is made so that even if you try not to remove them, but to break them off with force, the connection port is not damaged. Moreover, you can still disconnect them without pressing the unlock button if you pull hard enough.
In summing up the video, Nelson noted that the Nintendo Switch 2 is easy to damage cosmetically, but is designed in such a way that it is harder to actually break than it seems.
