Pro-Ject Audio Systems has unveiled a device called Flatten It, aimed at vinyl fans. While it cannot play sound, it can gently return a warped or damaged vinyl record to its original flat shape.
The Flatten It utilizes a press made of aluminum plates and a heating element with a precise temperature control (a hysteresis of only 2°C). This precision prevents overheating of the plates during the hour-long heating and two-hour cooling cycle. According to the manufacturer, this method of restoration is much more reliable than homemade techniques.
The device body features a small screen to display key information, as well as two switches (power and temperature mode). To use, simply place the vinyl record inside the device, close the lid, and start the process.
According to its specifications, Flatten It is compatible with records of any standard size and thickness. The dimensions of the device itself are 365 x 60 x 420 mm, and it weighs 4 kg. The price of the new product in Europe is €799.
