Qualcomm may be gearing up to challenge Intel and AMD once again. According to well-known tech insider Roland Quandt, the company is currently testing a powerful new chip—code-named SC8480XP—featuring an 18-core processor and 64GB of RAM in its test configuration.
This new chip is believed to be the Snapdragon X2 Elite, the anticipated successor to the Snapdragon X Elite, which currently offers a 12-core CPU with eight high-performance cores. If the rumors hold true, the X2 Elite will push even further with additional high-performance cores, potentially offering a major leap in processing power.
What makes this development even more interesting is Qualcomm’s rumored use of System-in-Package (SiP) technology for the X2 Elite. In this configuration, the CPU, RAM, and SSD are all integrated into a single chip package—offering improved performance, reduced latency, and a smaller overall footprint.
Roland Quandt, known for accurately leaking details about devices like the GoPro Hero 9 and 10 Black, as well as smartphones from Nokia, Xiaomi, and Samsung, has a strong track record—adding credibility to the report.
With the rise of ARM-based computing and Qualcomm’s aggressive push into the high-performance PC market, the upcoming Snapdragon X2 Elite could represent a serious threat to traditional x86 players like Intel and AMD.
