There are not many games in the world that gather millions of people online. Among the champions in this indicator have always been Fortnite and Roblox, where the “royal battle” confidently led with concerts of popular stars and new seasons. But now its dominance has come to an end.
Grow a Garden broke Fortnite’s record for peak online players, surpassing 16 million concurrent users with the release of patch 1.10.0. For comparison, during the Remix: The Finale event with Fortnite featuring tracks by rapper Juice WRLD, there were 14 million players in the “battle royale” at the same time, which was an absolute industry record.
Fortnite was beaten by a game based on Roblox. It was created by a four-person team called The Garden Game, founded by DevNamedDavid. In Grow a Garden, players need to plant plants, care for them, and wait for them to grow. One of the gameplay features is that plants ripen regardless of whether there is a player on the server or not.
Despite the resounding success of patch 1.10.0 in Grow a Garden, the huge online quickly dwindled: after just a couple of days, the number of players dropped to 3 million people. However, this is still a large figure, exceeding many popular releases on Steam.
