An unofficial list of Mac devices expected to receive the latest version of macOS has appeared in industry media. The list is notable because it suggests that Apple will leave several once-popular devices behind.
According to Apple Insider, only the following computers are expected to get the latest macOS update:
-
MacBook Pro 2019 or newer
-
MacBook Air M1 and later
-
iMac 2020 and newer
-
Mac mini M1 and newer
-
All Mac Studio models
-
Mac Pro 2019 and newer
Apple hinted at ending support for Intel-based devices back in 2020. Typically, their software support lasts about five years. The computers left off the current list were released around seven years ago. It’s likely that the MacBook Pro (2019) and the 5K version of the 2020 iMac will no longer be supported next year, and eventually, the 2019 iMac Pro will also be dropped from support.
More details are expected at WWDC 2025 on June 9, when Apple will reveal the next version of macOS and announce the official list of compatible devices.
