It’s no secret that YouTube is actively fighting ad blockers, but the situation has recently become even more acute. The company’s latest innovation has closed a loophole that allowed users to bypass the display of annoying commercial inserts in videos using the Firefox browser with the uBlock extension.
Reddit users who encountered the problem over the weekend reported a “tightening of the screws.” The Mozilla browser extension, which had been working until recently, suddenly stopped functioning, and instead of the usual content, viewers saw a notification about blocking viewing. As usual, Google offered to buy a Premium subscription to continue using the video hosting service.
The “victims” themselves suggested that YouTube “just give up” and also criticized the company for imposing a paid service. Some, however, dug a little deeper and found that the problem can be solved by disabling the EasyList filter in the uBlock Origin extension settings. Google itself has not yet commented on the situation.
