Folks who use WhatsApp on their phones might soon find it a little easier to grab snippets of text from their chats. It looks like WhatsApp is tinkering with a new feature that would let you quickly copy a message directly from the chat list itself, without having to open up the full conversation.
According to the folks over at WABetaInfo, who keep a close eye on WhatsApp developments, they’ve spotted this feature in the works for both Android and iOS versions of the app. Right now, if you want to copy a message, you usually have to tap and hold on the message within a chat, and then choose the “Copy” option from the menu that pops up. This new feature aims to streamline that process.
The idea is that you’ll be able to long-press on a chat in your main WhatsApp list, and instead of just seeing the usual options like “Mark as Unread” or “Mute,” you might also see a “Copy” option right there. Tapping that would instantly copy the last received or sent message in that particular conversation to your phone’s clipboard.
This could be particularly useful for quickly sharing information like addresses, phone numbers, or short pieces of text without needing to fully enter the chat and scroll through previous messages. It’s all about saving a few taps and making things a bit more convenient, especially when you’re on the go.
As with any feature that’s still in development, there’s no guarantee that this “copy from chat list” option will definitely make its way to the final, public version of WhatsApp. However, its appearance in early test builds suggests that WhatsApp is actively exploring ways to improve the user experience and make everyday tasks within the app a little bit smoother. So, WhatsApp users on both Android and iOS might just have a handy new shortcut to look forward to in a future update.
