Wynd Helmet Shows Off Bike Helmet With Built-In Dynamo

British startup Wynd Helmet has introduced an innovative bicycle helmet with built-in, removable, manually charged headlights. The development completely solves the problem of dead or forgotten bicycle lights.

The helmet complies with the EN-1078 safety standard, but its main feature is the built-in dynamo mechanism. On the back are a white headlight, a red taillight, and a folding charging handle. Just 30 seconds of rotation will give about 30 minutes of LED operation, and a longer charge can extend the operation to 5-10 hours.

The lights are powered by 80 mAh lithium batteries and produce up to 50 lumens each. They are attached to the handlebars and seatpost using rubber straps and support two flashing modes. An indicator on the helmet itself shows the charge level of the lights.

The total weight of the helmet is 300 grams without the headlights and 340 grams with them. It is currently available for pre-order on Kickstarter for $50, while the retail price after launch will be $89. Shipments are expected to start in February next year.
