Xiaomi is rumored to follow Apple in revising the way it numbers versions of its proprietary mobile operating system, HyperOS. Now, its name is expected to be tied to the real calendar, not the company’s internal one.

If you believe the insiders, instead of HyperOS 3, HyperOS 26 will be presented, the premiere of which is expected together with Android 16. This is believed to relieve users of confusion and simplify the choice of gadget. For example, “26” in the name will mean that the software is relevant as of 2026.
On the other hand, such an approach may complicate life for the brand itself, which will have to strictly adhere to the annual cycle of releasing new OS versions so that their numbering justifies itself. Xiaomi itself has not yet made any official statements on this matter.
